Lithium isotopes in the Loire River Basin (France): Hydrogeochemical characterizations at two complementary scales

We illustrate two different, but complementary, applications of lithium (Li) isotope tracers for river-basin characterization at different scales within the Loire River basin (LRB) in France. The first example deals with behaviour Li and fractionation its isotopes during river weathering scale LRB (117,800 km2). wide ?7Li range (+5.0 to +13.3‰) streams, spatialized between headwaters lowlands, is consistent distinct conditions distribution from bedrock rivers secondary mineral phases water/rock interaction. Additionally, suspended sediments streams are significantly 6Li enriched (?7Li ?8.7 ?7.6‰) compared average waters that +5.0 +13.3‰. second focuses on smaller Egoutier watershed (13 km2), part LRB, which shows can be useful distinguishing natural input anthropogenic pollution, like effluents a water treatment plant connected hospital. Overall, we confirm cannot used as lithological waters. However, did find good sources an urbanized watershed.
